Days From Today Calculator
Calculate the signed number of calendar days between today and any past or future date. Future dates return a positive result and past dates return a negative result.
This calculator finds the signed number of calendar days between today and a selected date. Choose a future date to see how many days remain, today to receive zero, or a past date to see the elapsed difference as a negative number.
How Does the Days From Today Calculator Work?
The calculator subtracts today’s calendar date from the selected date. It compares calendar-day boundaries rather than measuring an exact duration in hours.
Understanding Positive, Zero, and Negative Results
A positive result means the selected date is in the future. Zero means you selected today. A negative result means the selected date has already passed. For example, tomorrow returns 1 and yesterday returns -1.
How to Use the Calculator
Select any target date and click Calculate Days. The result displays today’s date, the selected date, and their signed difference in calendar days.
Elapsed Counting Versus Inclusive Counting
The result measures the difference between the two dates and does not count both endpoints inclusively. Tomorrow is one day from today. If you need an inclusive future-date count containing both today and the target date, add one to a positive result.
Calendar Days and Business Days
Every calendar day is included, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. The calculator does not exclude weekends or apply a country-specific business calendar.
Common Uses for Days From Today
Use future dates to count down to trips, deadlines, appointments, birthdays, reservations, project milestones, and events. Use past dates to measure how many calendar days have passed since a purchase, appointment, event, or other recorded date.
Month Lengths and Leap Years
The calculation uses actual calendar dates, so months with 28, 29, 30, or 31 days are handled automatically. February 29 is included whenever it falls between today and the selected date.
Private Browser-Based Calculation
The calculation runs locally in your browser. The date you select does not need to be uploaded to or stored on the ORVITech server.
How Is the Result Calculated?
Days from today = Selected date − Today
Days From Today Examples
If today is July 1 and you select July 15, the result is 14 days. If you select June 20 instead, the result is -11 days because that date occurred 11 calendar days before today.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate the number of days from today?
Select any target date. The calculator subtracts today from that date and returns the signed difference in calendar days.
Can I select a date in the past?
Yes. A past date produces a negative result representing how many calendar days before today it occurred.
What does a negative result mean?
It means the selected date is in the past. For example, -7 means the date occurred seven calendar days before today.
What does a positive result mean?
It means the selected date is in the future. For example, 30 means the date is 30 calendar days after today.
What happens if I select today?
The result is zero because no calendar-day boundary separates today from itself.
Does the calculation include today?
No. It measures the difference between today and the selected date. Tomorrow therefore returns one day.
Does the calculator count weekends and holidays?
Yes. It counts all calendar days and does not remove weekends or public holidays.
Does it account for leap years?
Yes. It uses actual calendar dates, so February 29 is counted automatically when it falls within the interval.
Does daylight saving time affect the result?
No. The calculator compares calendar dates instead of dividing elapsed hours by 24, so daylight-saving clock changes do not alter the result.
Can I select a date several years away?
Yes. You can compare today with dates many years in the past or future.
Is my selected date stored?
No. The calculation occurs locally in your browser and the selected date is not stored on the ORVITech server.
Is the days from today calculator free?
Yes. You can use it without creating an account or installing an application.
